We want your pet’s first visit with us to be as comfortable for you as we hope it is for your pet, so here is some helpful information on what to expect, as well as some convenient forms which may be printed and completed at your convenience:
Your time is valuable to you, so we do see patients by appointment to minimize any waiting time. Please call ahead so we can schedule your pet’s visit at a time that is convenient for you. Our receptionists will ask questions about your pet’s health needs and basic contact information so that we can help you in the best ways possible. We will ask that any pertinent pet medical records be sent to us if possible. (Privacy laws for pet medical records are similar to those for us, so your permission is required for another office to release records to us.)
Please be sure to ask any questions you may have so that we can prepare to make your visit the best possible.
An experienced medical team member will meet you in the reception area and escort you and your pet into one of our exams rooms to gather further medical history information from you and the initial exam information (temperature, weight, etc.) from your pet.
If your pet’s visit is for routine care, the doctor will then greet you and your pet and perform the appropriate physical examination. We thoroughly evaluate for any active illnesses as well as any lifestyle or chronic issues which may affect long-term health or interfere with preventive care. We will carefully explain our medical findings along with
our recommendations for any preventive immunizations(shots) or medications. This is the perfect time to ask any questions about your pet’s health that we may not have covered; after all, the most important responsibility we have as veterinarians is to share with you information which can help your pet be a healthy and happy member of your family.
For more acute medical needs, such as examining a sick or injured pet, the information you provide about how your pet is feeling is even more critical, helping our doctors and team focus in on the problems and solutions. Again, the doctor’s exam will help further define your pet’s medical status and come to a diagnosis. Depending on the need, we may recommend tests (as simple as examining ear swabs or as complex as blood tests or X-Rays) to help us identify what’s wrong. We are here to help you, and you will always be in charge of your pet’s health care. We will give you our best understanding of your pet’s problems, our best recommendations on how to help, and any information you need to help you make the decisions that are right for your pet and family.
After the examination and treatment has been completed, we will review with you any medications which have been dispensed or prescribed, and go over any specific at home care recommendations. Recheck appointments or progress reports can be very important for many medical conditions, and we will help make arrangement for those with you. Our receptionists will assist in the check out process at the front desk, or if you prefer, we can complete the final paperwork in the privacy of the exam room.
